On Wednesday, Gov. Cuomo announced that the state will increase its funding for the Urban Youth Jobs Program and launch a new Pre-Apprenticeship Program.

The Urban Youth Jobs Program is a tax credit program which connects minority and at-risk youth with employment opportunities; the state has increased its support from $20 million to $50 million.  The state has also launched a new web site for the program.

Gov. Cuomo also announced the launch of the new Pre-Apprenticeship Program, which is intended to enable training providers prepare participants for careers in the building and construction trades.

Gov. Cuomo said:

“From the Unemployment Strikeforce to the Urban Youth Jobs program, we are making smart investments to tackle unemployment in communities where it is most pervasive, and connect tomorrow’s workers with the skills they need to succeed in a 21st century workplace.”
