Last Thursday Gov. Cuomo announced that the state Department of Health’s Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement, in conjunction with the State Police, will increase their enforcement efforts regarding the illegal sale of the synthetic drug K2. The Governor has also directed the State Liquor Authority and state Commission to increase their oversight and enforcement efforts to revoke a store owner’s liquor and lottery licenses if they are found to be selling K2.

Gov. Cuomo said:

“The evolution of synthetic drugs is an alarming public health risk – but we are on the front lines of the battle.  The state will continue to identify emerging compounds that put users in danger and aggressively chase down sellers of these toxic substances.”

K2 overdoses have surged in New York City, with more than 130 occurring this week alone.
