Unshackle Upstate partnered with 41 employer organizations from across the state — including, The Buffalo Niagara Partnership, The Empire State Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, The Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce, The Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce and The North Country Chamber of Commerce — in a joint letter to the “Temporary Commission To Review The State’s Business Climate” calling for 6 “core reforms” to be considered by the commission, the Governor and the Legislature.
Reforms outlined in the letter include:
- Workers Compensation Reform;
- Reform to Wicks Law;
- Reducing the Cost of Private Health Insurance;
- Small Business Tax Reduction;
- Medical Liability Reform; and
- Scaffold Law Reform.
The letter states that these issues must be treated as priorities “to truly make New York State a place where existing businesses can grow and new ones want to locate.”
The temporary commission was empaneled following a state budget process that included unprecedented new mandates for New York State employers. It is charged with delivering recommendations to the Legislature by early June.
The public can make submissions to the commission digitally via email: email@example.com.
