After the unprecedented criminal convictions of the former Assembly Speaker and Senate Majority Leader, Gov. Cuomo said that he plans to address the need for ethics reform in his January 13th State of the State/Budget address.

The Governor also said that he plans to make closing the LLC loophole — which allows limited liability companies to be treated as individuals, rather than as corporations — a priority in 2016. We have no problems with the state enacting campaign finance reforms, so long as they ensure that there is a level playing field.  While so-called reformers like to point to the LLC loophole, they fail to highlight the loopholes that allow unions and their locals to make large political contributions and exert undue influence on the state’s political process.
