Last week, Thruway Authority Executive Director Robert Megna announced the formation and membership of the New NY Bridge Toll Advisory Task Force, which will report its recommendations in mid-2016.
The task force will be co-chaired by Matthew J. Driscoll, commissioner of the state DOT, and the executive director of the Thruway Authority. The other task force members are Joan McDonald, former commissioner of the state Department of Transportation; William Thompson Jr., former New York City comptroller; Lawrence Salley, chairman of the White Plains Housing Authority; former Albany Mayor Gerald Jennings; and Matthew Rand, managing partner of Better Homes and Gardens Rand Realty.
The task force will hold monthly meetings and will consider toll rates and potential discount options for commuters and residents. It is expected to report its findings in mid-2016.
Megna also said there will be no toll increases in 2016.
This move is long overdue. Thruway users and taxpayers deserve to know how the Thruway and the Tappan Zee Bridge replacement will be paid for.
