Last week, the New York Times reported that federal investigators are looking into how contracts were awarded in Gov. Cuomo’s ‘Buffalo Billion’ project, the economic development program which is intended to infuse $1 billion into the region’s economy while creating 14,000 jobs.

Federal grand jury subpoenas have reportedly been issued the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly), which is a key administrator of the program, as well as to the state’s economic development agency, Empire State Development (ESD), which provided funding for the program.

When he was asked about the subpoenas, Gov. Cuomo called the Buffalo Billion “a phenomenal success,” and said that any such questions should be directed to the U.S. Attorney.
