Last week, Gov. Cuomo traveled to Puerto Rico with other elected officials on a “solidarity mission” to discuss the Puerto Rican government’s health care crisis and economic challenges. The Governor and the delegation met with Puerto Rican officials and discussed the need for Washington to take action to help Puerto Rico.
Gov. Cuomo also announced an “action plan” to help Puerto Rico’s government streamline health care system and apply for federal redesign funds. He said that he will urge the federal government to revise the federal funding formulas that are undermining Puerto Rico’s health care system, and also announced new initiatives that are intended to aid Puerto Rico in energy and infrastructure, agriculture, tourism and business and technology development.
We are sympathetic to the people of Puerto Rico and their situation. But the people of Upstate New York need a “solidarity mission” from our lawmakers in Albany to address our economic problems.
