Last week, discussion over the current and future state of the Upstate economy continued as Gov. Cuomo released a lengthy Huffington Post op-ed that details the Democratic governor’s efforts to spur the upstate economy.
This is an important discussion for Albany policymakers to be having right now. We applaud the Governor’s economic development efforts, and we have seen some progress in terms of targeted tax reductions.
But if we want Upstate communities to be able to thrive – to be able to support strong, private sector jobs creation – we need the 2016 legislative session to include broad-based tax relief, as well as regulatory relief for businesses and relief from state-imposed mandates for local governments.
