State Gaming Commission Chair Mark Gearan announced this week that he is resigning his position, citing professional obligations in other areas. Gearan, President of Hobart & William Smith Colleges, was appointed to the Gaming Commission by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in late 2014.
His resignation comes as the Gaming Commission will be issuing at least three, and possibly four, commercial casino licenses throughout Upstate. The Commission is also overseeing the New York State Racing Association (NYRA), which is being operated under receivership following years of problems there.
