Last week, state Attorney General Eric Schneidermanannounced the release of a report that touts the progress made on helping homeowners and families prevent foreclosures.

The report looks at three programs run by his office — the Homeowner Protection Program, New York State Mortgage Assistance Program, and—that he says have helped tens of thousands of New York families avoid foreclosure. These programs are funded by more than $100 million from bank settlements.

Attorney General Schneiderman said:

“This report is a sign of the great progress we have made in reaching tens of thousands of New York families in need of foreclosure relief. The free, high-quality services provided by my office’s network of housing counselors and lawyers often mean the difference between a refinanced mortgage and homelessness. I will continue to work hard to give New York families a fair shot in their negotiations with the banks.”
