Last week, a number of state education lobby groups urged lawmakers to make changes to the real property tax cap limits worry school budgets won’t increase taxes at all if inflation remains low. These groups want to eliminate the 60% “supermajority” vote that is required to pierce the cap, and to add new exceptions to the cap.
We’ll be urging lawmakers not to make such changes to the cap. It’s worked, it is working, and the public supports it. We should keep it as is – and make it permanent.
