Unshackle Upstate was proud to be a participant in Small Business Day 2015 last Tuesday. The event was sponsored by the state chapter of the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB).
We urged lawmakers to address the state’s persistently high tax and regulatory burdens. We also expressed disappointment with the Governor’s proposed 4% small business tax cuts, which is simply inadequate.
On the same day, Gov. Cuomo was in Buffalo to launch a campaign in support of increasing the state’s minimum wage. As part of his budget proposal, Gov. Cuomo has proposed raising the state’s minimum wage to $10.50 per hour (and to $11.50 per hour in New York City).
As you might imagine, we simply cannot support yet another state-mandated wage increase, as the last one hasn’t even become fully effective yet. Another minimum wage increase will harm small businesses and entry level workers. You can see our response to the Governor’s proposal to increase the state’s minimum wage in an interview here.
