Last Monday, the Rebuild NY Now coalition held a rally and lobby day in Albany, continuing its effort to raise awareness of our state’s huge infrastructure needs, and to push for funding to meet those needs.

There is widespread agreement that New York needs to invest in its infrastructure if it is going to remain competitive and create jobs, and recent studies have shown that for every billion dollars spent on infrastructure repair and development, more than 28,000 jobs are created.

Last month, Unshackle Upstate issued a report titled Invest in New York which called for, among other things, the creation of a $3.5 billion infrastructure bank to support upgrades and new investments in roads and bridges, water and sewer systems and broadband Internet access.

We will be pushing for the 2015-16 budget to use a portion of the state’s current financial windfall to be used to pay for these important infrastructure investments.
