On Dec. 31st, the Thruway Authority’s Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer abruptly resigned this week. Thomas Madison and John Bryan resigned their positions last Wednesday without providing any advance notice. Their departures follow the December resignation of Howard Milstein as chair of the Thruway Authority’s board, and the adopting a 2015 budget that includes a multi-million dollar operating deficit for 2015.
The Thruway Authority continues to face questions about the funding of the bridge to replace the Tappan Zee Bridge, and about whether they plan to increase toll increase tolls to pay for the project. We continue to oppose any efforts to increase Upstate tolls to pay for this downstate project.
Cuomo Administration officials said that Deputy Secretary for Transportation Karen Rae will manage the transition period, and Assistant Deputy Director of State Operations Jennifer McCormick will take over day-to-day operations at the Thruway Authority until a new executive director is in place.
