Mario Cuomo, who served as New York’s governor from 1983 through 1994, died in New York City on New Year’s Day at the age of 82.  The father of current Gov. Andrew Cuomo, he was a leading liberal in the Republican-dominated 1980s, and he considered running for the presidency in 1988 and 1992.
