There has been a great deal of speculation in Albany that the Legislature will hold a special session some time this month.
Some lawmakers want to increase their base pay, which has been set at $79,500 since 1999. Since the State Constitution prohibits lawmakers from raising their salaries during its two year term, a pay raise could not take effect until 2015. If lawmakers do grant themselves a pay raise, it is likely that they would also increase pay for Executive branch officials as well.
In the past, where lawmakers have returned to Albany after Election Day to deal with new issues, other matters have been taken up as well.
