Now that Election Day has come and gone and he is guaranteed four more years in office, we feel that it’s time for New York State to end its de facto moratorium on natural gas development using high-volume hydraulic fracturing.

With the Court of Appeals saying that communities that do not support natural gas development to prohibit it, there is really no reason to put a regulatory and permitting process in place, and allow the practice where the community supports it.

We know that some radical environmentalists say the state should hold off until the process “is proven safe,” but they are just grasping at straws. If that’s the standard the state should put in place, then we all have to give up our cars (because there are car accidents), eating solid food (because someone could choke) and showers (people slip, you know), and virtually everything else.

It’s time, Governor. Natural gas can be developed safely, and that’s a good thing because the Southern Tier needs the jobs.
