Last Friday, Gov. Cuomo announced the appointment of Roberto Velez as Commissioner of the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). Velez is the former Commissioner of the New York City Department of Probation and Chief Judge to the New York City Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings; he most recently served as Vice President for Corporate Compliance and Counsel for Acacia Network, Inc.
Gov. Cuomo said:
“Roberto Velez has had a storied career in both the public and private sectors, and I am proud to have him join our team as Commissioner of the Office of Children and Family Services. Roberto is well regarded among his peers, and his leadership and experience will be an important asset for this Office and the many New Yorkers it supports. I look forward to having Roberto begin his State service and join us in moving New York State forward.”
OCFS is responsible for the state’s programs and services involving foster care, adoption and adoption assistance, child protective services including operating the Statewide Central Register for Child Abuse and Maltreatment, preventive services for children and families, services for pregnant adolescents, and protective programs for vulnerable adults.
