Last Tuesday, Gov. Cuomo announced the groundbreaking of a SolarCity facility that will manufacture solar panels at the RiverBend site in South Buffalo. According to the Governor, the project will create 3,000 jobs in Western New York, and a total of 5,000 throughout the state.

The state will invest $750 million in infrastructure, and SolarCity will spend $5 billion over the next decade to build and operate the 1.2 million square foot facility, and to purchase the equipment required to operate it. The factory is expected to be operating by early 2016.

The Buffalo-Niagara Partnership is looking to use this project as a means of leveraging additional region al investment. You can read more about that effort here.
