State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli released an analysis of state spending on overtime last week, and warned that the state’s 7.6% increase at state agencies over the first six months of 2014 represents a record-setting pace.

Comptroller DiNapoli said:

“This troubling trend could again result in a record-breaking year of overtime hours and overtime pay.  Our state agencies need to examine their practices, get to the root of what is driving high overtime and better manage these costs.”

Obviously, state agencies need to ensure that have their expenditures under control.  The Cuomo Administration has done a tremendous job limit state agency spending growth to less than 2% over the last few state budget years.  We share the Comptroller’s concerns about the growth of overtime, and urge these agencies to stem this growth.
