Last week, the state Department of Labor released the latest state job numbers. While the headlines were good – “New York State’s Economy Adds 17,300 Private Sector Jobs in July” and “July Marks 20 Straight Months of Private Sector Job Growth,” the news for Upstate is not very good at all.
As our friends at the Empire Center note, the downstate region accounted for 88 percent of the state’s private sector job growth over the last year. Upstate continues to lag behind the national job creation numbers as well.
Just another reminder that much, much more remains to be done in terms of job creation and improving the Upstate economy.
