Last week, Gov. Cuomo announced that he has signed into law a package of bills intended to address the state’s heroin and opioid abuse crisis.

The new laws include insurance reforms to improve treatment options for individuals suffering from addiction; measures to strengthen penalties and put in place additional tools for law enforcement to crack down on the distribution of illegal drugs; provisions to ensure the proper and safe use of the overdoes antidote naloxone; and an enhanced public awareness campaign and educational effort to prevent drug abuse.
