Last Thursday, Gov. Cuomo signed legislation that will establish 25 new Family Court judgeships throughout the state – 20 in 2015, and 5 in 2016. The state’s 2014-15 budget appropriated $5 million to support the new positions.
New York City will gain 9 new Family Court judges in 2015, while each of the following counties will gain one: Albany, Broome, Chautauqua, Franklin, Nassau, Oneida, Oswego, Schenectady, Suffolk, Ulster and Westchester. In 2016, Delaware, Dutchess, Erie, Monroe and Warren will each gain one new Family Court judgeship.
