Last week, Gov. Cuomo announced the launch of an ‘Unemployment Strikeforce,’ “a multi-pronged campaign to target areas of the State with the highest unemployment rates and boost employment.” Initially, the effort will focus on Bronx County, Jefferson County, Lewis County and Kings County.
Dedicated Strikeforce staff – drawn from Empire State Development and the State Department of Labor — will work with local elected officials and community-based organizations to connect jobseekers with local business opportunities. JPMorgan Chase has promised to commit $20 million over the next five years to support the state’s efforts to combat unemployment.
