Last week, the Republican Party held its state party nominating convention in Westchester County, choosing Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino as candidate for Governor, Chris Moss for Lt. Governor, John Cahill for Attorney General and Bob Antonacci for Comptroller.
Astorino was re-elected to a second term as Westchester County Executive last year by a double digit margin in an overwhelmingly Democratic county. He previously served in the county legislature, was a radio host and a radio program director.
Chemung County Sheriff Chris Moss is Astorino’s running mate. A vocal critic of the SAFE Act, Sheriff Moss he has served in the position since 2006. He is currently president of the New York State Sheriff’s Association.
John Cahill, a former Pataki Administration aide, will run for Attorney General. He called incumbent Democrat Eric Schneiderman “silent Schneiderman,” saying he has done nothing “as his pals and allies regularly abuse the public trust.” In response, the Schneiderman campaign published a Tumblr showing Cahill “running from” some of his positions.
Onondaga County Comptroller Robert Antonacci will challenge incumbent Democratic Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. A CPA, Antonacci will participate in the pilot taxpayer-funded campaign finance program that we staunchly oppose.
