Republican Hudson Valley Senator Will Not Run Again

State Senator Greg Ball (R-Patterson) announced (via video) last week that he will not seek re-election this fall, instead planning to enter the private sector. The Democrats expect to seriously compete for the seat in November.

The 40th Senate District is made up of northern Westchester and parts of Dutchess and Putnam counties. Terrence Murphy, a chiropractor and Yorktown councilman, and former Republican Assemblyman Bob Castelli are running. Justin Wagner, a Democratic attorney from Croton-on-Hudson whom Ball narrowly defeated in 2012, said he plans to run again this fall.
