Last Wednesday, President Obama used the Tappan Zee Bridge as a press conference backdrop as part of his effort to pressure Congressional Republicans to support infrastructure spending.

The White House claims that if Congress fails to act on the President’s $302 billion, four-year transportation program, transportation infrastructure funding will run out later this year, threatening some 700,000 jobs.

We have significant issues in New York when it comes to roads and bridges. Just over the past 2 weeks, 5 bridges in Upstate New York have been closed due to unsafe conditions. And that’s just the start of it. It’s why we push for new laws and policies, like Design-Build re-authorization and a recalculation of prevailing wages, as means to make our limited dollars go further. It’s time to stop wasting OUR money on laws that have long outlived their usefulness.
