Rematch in the 46th State Senate District
Former Republican Assemblyman George Amedore has announced his intention to challenge Democratic Senator Cecilia Tkaczyk in the 46th Senate District, setting up a rematch of 2012’s most hotly contested State Senate race. Sen. Tkaczyk emerged victorious by a scant 35 votes in 2012 after a protracted recount process and several law suits. The 46th District snakes from the Mohawk Valley and the Capital District, south through the Hudson Valley, occupying all or parts of Montgomery, Schenectady, Albany, Greene and Ulster Counties.
No Special Elections for Legislative Vacancies
At a press conference last week, Gov. Cuomo said that he will not call special elections to fill 12 legislative vacancies. The 2 Senate vacancies and 10 Assembly vacancies will instead be filled in this fall’s elections.
Pro-Gun PAC Formed
A grassroots coalition of anti-SAFE Act organizations has registered a political action committee, which plans to challenge 20 legislators in this fall’s elections. The NY2A Victory Fund will be used to take on incumbents who voted in favor of the supported the SAFE Act.
