Astorino Critical of Cuomo on the State’s Business Climate
On Monday, GOP gubernatorial candidate and Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino released a video questioning the state’s expenditure of $15.2 million on TV touting START-UP NY, the program passed by the Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Cuomo last year that offers 10 years free of state taxes to businesses that locate in designated zones.
On Friday, Astorino released a second video criticizing Gov. Cuomo for the businesses that have left the state in recent months.
Astorino is currently the only announced GOP candidate for Governor. The fact that the video was released on the Internet, rather than broadcast on television, highlights one the challenges Astorino faces in the race for Governor. Andrew Cuomo has raised some $33 million for his re-election campaign, and he also enjoys much greater name recognition than Astorino.
GOP Assemblymember To Challenge Incumbent Congressman in CNY district
Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney (R- New Hartford) said last week that she will challenge U.S. Rep. Richard Hanna in the Republican primary for the 22nd Congressional District. Tenney is in her second term in Albany, and Hanna is in his second term in Washington.
Hanna has the support of all of the area Republican leaders in the race. Tenney has received Tea Party support in her prior races. Two other Republicans, Michael Kicinski of Earlville and Michael Vasquez of Binghamton, have said that they are considering challenging Hanna in the June 24th primary election.
