Last week, we announced our support for Southern Tier Residents for Economic Independence, a group working to develop natural gas resources in the Southern Tier.

It’s no secret that New York’s Southern Tier is one of the most economically-depressed parts of the state.  But it doesn’t have to be that way. That’s why we’re joining with Southern Tier resident to push for responsible development of natural gas.  One look across the state’s border into Pennsylvania — where communities are thriving — shows why New York should be taking advantage of hydraulic fracturing to develop our natural gas resources.

Lou Santoni, President and CEO of the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce and co-found of STREI, said:

“Unshackle Upstate is the leading voice on the issues confronting the upstate economy. Unshackle knows all too well that this is an issue of economic survival for businesses and taxpayers in the Southern Tier and I am confident that they will provide a strong voice for this effort.”

The people of the Southern Tier have a right to be upset with the state’s leaders for failing to respond to their economic plight. We are proud to be a part of their effort to bring natural gas development to the Southern Tier.
