State Senator Jack Martins (R-Nassau County) was appointed to lead the Senate Commerce, Economic and Small Business Committee last week.

Martins had served as chairman of the Senate Local Government Committee for three years.

Before getting elected to the Senate in 2010, Martins was mayor of Mineola. He is a co-owner of J&A Concrete, a family-owned construction business.

Senator Martins has been a good friend to taxpayers.  As head of the local government committee, he was an outspoken advocate for mandate relief.  We congratulate him and look forward to working with him in his new capacity.
