The most recent U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report shows that Marcellus Shale has created 15,114 direct jobs in Pennsylvania.  That’s compared to no Marcellus Shale jobs in New York.  In fact, New York has probably lost gas industry jobs, even as other states throughout the nation have seen huge growth in shale gas production and employment.

And the study only looks at direct jobs.  It doesn’t analyze indirect job creation, for support services and other jobs (such as hospitality and service jobs) that support the natural gas industry.

But as other state create good jobs, our friend and neighbors in the Southern Tier continue to wait on New York’s leaders to figure out that their natural gas resources can be accessed responsibly.
