Long Island Senator Resigns

 

On Tuesday, Senator Charles Fuschillo (R-Long Island) announced his resignation from the State Senate to become the CEO of Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. The eight-term lawmaker helped enact tougher drunk driving laws as Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee.

Gov. Cuomo could call a special election to fill the seat (as well as the other eight legislative vacancies that currently exist), or he could allow it to remain vacant and be filled in the fall 2014 elections.

 

Governor Cuomo Touts 2013 Accomplishments in Campaign Mailer

 

Gov. Cuomo’s re-election campaign sent out an eight-page mailer this week, touting his 2013 accomplishments, including the establishment on tax-free zones for new businesses, increasing o the state’s minimum wage, and improving the quality of education in the state.

 

McLaughlin Will Likely Not Run for Governor

 

Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R-Rensselaer County), who has been considering a long-shot run for governor in 2014, conceded this week that it would be “nearly impossible” for him to raise the money necessary to run a competitive campaign against Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The Cuomo 2014 campaign has raised almost $30 million for the race.
