This week, the NY Jobs Now coalition was launched in support of Proposition 1, which if approved will amend the state constitution to allow for up to seven new casinos in New York, including four Upstate.

The group argues that permitting commercial casino gambling in the state will create jobs, increase aid to schools, and enable local governments to lower property taxes.

The coalition’s membership includes Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone; Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown; Business Council President Heather Briccetti; President of the NYS Building & Construction Trades Council James Cahill; NYS AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento; President of the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York Gary LaBarbera; Long Island Association President Kevin Law; and United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew.
