We’ve spoken out (on more than one occasion) about New York’s seemingly endless delay in its environmental review on natural gas development. And we’ve also pointed out that there is a great deal of misinformation about fracking.
Some claim that the benefits of shale gas development will only accrue to the few lucky landowners.
A recent report issued by McKinsey & Company looks into the best opportunities for the American economy to grow and prosper. And what did they find? That energy – through the production of shale oil and gas – is the biggest “game changer.” The report notes that the industry does face challenges (including environmental impacts), but we know that those can be appropriately managed through a reasonable regulatory regime.
Anyone who has traveled to northern Pennsylvania recently has probably seen the benefits of shale gas. It’s time for New York to move beyond misinformed fears and allow our natural resources to be developed.
