Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos has named Senator Cathy Young (R-Cattaraugus County) to oversee the Senate Republican’s campaign committee. She replaces Senator Tom Libous (R-Broome County), who is battling cancer.

In 2014, all 63 State Senate seats are up for election next year. Republicans lost the majority in the 2012 elections, but maintained their control of the Senate through a power-sharing agreement with the Senate’s Independent Democratic Conference.

We congratulate Senator Young, and wish her the best as she takes on this new challenge.

But more importantly, our thoughts and prayers are with Senator Libous and his family.  He has been a tremendous voice for Upstate in the Senate, and we hope that his treatment is successful.
