Last week, Gov. Cuomo approved the Upstate NY Gaming Economic Development Act, a comprehensive new law that, assuming voters approve a related constitutional amendment in November, will allow the state to site four destination gaming resorts in Upstate New York.  The hope is that by allowing commercial casino gambling, the state will increase tourism and economic development.

If the public approves the amendment, the state will site four upstate casino resorts in the Southern Tier, the Catskills and the Capital Region.  Additional casinos would be sited downstate after a seven-year exclusivity period.
