As we travel the many roads that make up our life, we encounter hundreds, likely thousands, of people.  Some we never see again.  Others we see regularly due to work, school, sports and in the general community.  And some of them have an impact on our lives that we often don’t realize until later in life.

But there are other people that you meet and their influence in your life is immediate.  For me, one of those people is retiring.  And his departure will have impact.  He is not only a boss and a mentor, but someone that I am proud to say is a friend.

Andrew Rudnick is retiring as President and CEO of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership.  He has been a steady, calming influence in Western New York for the past 20 years.  At times controversial, and always colorful (I will never be able to look at lipstick again without thinking of him), Andrew has been a role model for so many people.  He has given his time, his energy, and nearly 1/3 of his life to a region that desperately needed leadership.  And the results are tangible.  You can read about much of it here, http://www.buffalonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20130625/BUSINESS/130629423/1016.

As he leaves Buffalo, we will all feel the loss.  But for those of us that had the pleasure of working with him, and for him, his legacy will carry on in our work.

All the best to you, my friend.  I hope that you enjoy that well deserved retirement.
