Last week, Gov. Cuomo announced the Tax-Free NY initiative, a bold plan to establish tax-free zones at the state’s 64 public university campuses, most of which are Upstate.

While we do not yet have all of the program’s details, the Governor is looking to lure businesses to the state by exempting them from business and corporate taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, and the owners and employees would pay no income taxes.

We realize that this plan is not perfect – we EXPECT to see the state providing relief to businesses and jobs that have been here for generations – but this plan should attract new businesses and much needed jobs to the Upstate region and also help end our “brain drain.”
