Last Tuesday, the Assembly passed its so-called the Fair Elections Act (A.4980-C), which would establish a system of taxpayer-funded election campaigns.

We’ve been pretty clear in our opposition to this idea – we do not support taxpayer-funded political campaigns.  We are especially concerned that proposals such as this one would establish an open-ended program that will result in additional funds from the taxpayers.

The bottom line is that the state should not be placing this additional burden on taxpayers, especially while Upstate communities are suffering.

Do not be fooled.  Campaign finance will do nothing to stem the tide of corruption in Albany.  Bad apples will always be bad apples.  And those bad apples should not be given our hard earned money to fund their corrupt campaigns.

We are working hard to try to keep this proposal from advancing in the State Senate.
