Last Thursday, Gov. Cuomo announced that the state has awarded $46 million under the NY-Sun program to help finance 76 large-scale solar projects, which will add 52 megawatts to the state’s solar capacity. These awards will leverage $100 million in private investment, resulting in $146 million in projects.
Gov. Cuomo said:
“The NY-Sun initiative is driving the growth of solar energy systems that will help businesses and municipalities benefit from cost-effective, on-site electricity generation. At the same time, it is building the State’s clean-energy economy and growing jobs, showcasing once again that New York is a leader in renewable energy and environmental stewardship.”
According to the Governor, a total of 242 MW of photo-voltaic generation has been installed or is under development as part of NY-Sun – more than in the entire prior decade combined.
We commend Gov. Cuomo not only for promoting renewable energy (which is a good thing), but for promoting it in a fiscally responsible manner that does not add any new costs on ratepayer’s already high energy bills.
