Last Friday, Gov. Cuomo was joined in Albany by U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan and U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer to announce that the federal government has approved New York’s plan to distribute $1.7 billion in grants for business, housing and infrastructure programs for areas impacted by storms in 2011 and 2012.
This will allow the state to use $838 million to help fund housing programs and $415 million for business and economic development grants. The grants are part of the federal Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery program, which provides the state more flexibility in spending the funds than other grant programs.
