Earlier today, State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced that he has approved the terms of a $3.14 billion contract between the state Thruway Authority and Tappan Zee Constructors to design and build the new Tappan Zee Bridge. (Read the approval letter here.)

The state has not indicated how the project will be funded.  The state has sought a federal loan – so far, without success — of up to $2.9 billion to help pay for the new bridge.

Unshackle Upstate will oppose any proposal to increase Thruway tolls to pay for this project.  While we recognize that replacing the TZB is important, raising Thruway tolls to pay for it would do irreparable harm to the already struggling Upstate economy.
