Last week, the Lawsuit Reform Alliance of New York LRANY released a report which found that the state’s trial bar has spent more than $20 million in contributions to elected officials and lobbying since 2006.

According to the report, trial lawyers contributed 77 percent to the campaigns for members of the state legislature in the most recent session — 94 percent of Senators and 69 percent of Assembly members.

Tom Stebbins, LRANY Executive Director, said

“The trial lawyers are the largest special interest group that most people have never heard of. This report shows the outsized influence the trial lawyers have in Albany.”

If we want to fix our economy, we need to ensure that our civil justice system is fair to all participants.   This report will help you understand why we’ve been unable to fix our tort laws – because there is a big industry in defending them.
