I highly recommend taking a look at this article about how the “shale gas revolution” is fueling a revival of industry in many parts of the United States.  Industries such as petrochemicals and glass, steel and toys are seeing a boost from inexpensive natural gas derived from shale.

So the question is…why isn’t it happening in New York State? Will New York ever finish its environmental review – now finishing up its fourth year – or will we have to watch as virtually every other state with shale resources allows them to be developed?

According to Dow Chemical, manufacturers are planning to invest as much as $80 billion in U.S. chemical, fertilizer, steel, aluminum, tire and plastics plants.  Will New York State see any of that investment, and the jobs, economic growth and tax revenue that comes with it?

Or will we continue to watch from the sidelines as other states move forward?
