Last week, the United States Chamber of Commerce announced the release of a comprehensive co-sponsored study which shows that shale energy will create millions of jobs and trillions in investments over the coming decades.
The study examines the impact of shale energy development across the country, and shows that shale energy development has created 1.75 million jobs over the past few years alone. By 2015, shale and unconventional energy will be responsible for 2.5 million jobs; by 2020, 3 million, and by 2035, 3.5 million.
Unfortunately, New York’s lengthy environmental review of natural gas development continues, and we have no indication as to when this study – which began in 2008 – will end.
The American Petroleum Institute is running advertisements in the Southern Tier highlighting the jobs that shale gas development could create. See the ad here.
