Last Friday, the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) signaled that it will miss an upcoming deadline in the rule-making process relating to natural gas development through hydraulic fracturing.  This means that the agency will be required to open up the process to public comment, which will likely further delay the approval process into 2013.

DEC commenced its review process in December 2008 (read about the SGEIS here).

So for the foreseeable future, New Yorkers will continue to look on as other states safely develop their natural gas resources, creating jobs and economic activity while delivering cleaner energy.
