Last week, the Empire Center for NYS Policy released the 2011-12 edition of What They Make, their annual report on public payrolls. The report is intended to enable taxpayers to compare this key element of local government costs around the state.
While businesses and taxpayers have been cutting back (those of us who are still here, that is), too many public payrolls have only increased. We need to make sure that our local government leaders are doing everything they can to limit pay and benefit increases for public employees when they negotiate new contracts.
