GOP Senator Steve Saland, of the Hudson Valley, declared victory in his tight primary race this week.  Saland, one of four Republican senators to vote in favor of legalizing same sex marriage in 2011, defeated conservative challenger Neil DiCarlo.

Fellow Republican State Senator Roy McDonald, who also voted in favor of same sex marriage, lost his primary challenge to Kathy Marchione, the Saratoga County Clerk.  Marchione will face Democrat Robin Andrews in the general election.

In the Buffalo area, Democratic State Senator Tim Kennedy has declared victory over his challenger, Betty Jean Grant.
