The federal government has approved the environmental impact statement (EIS) for construction of a new Tappan Zee Bridge, which Gov. Cuomo called “a significant milestone.”  Financing for the new bridge has not yet been finalized, a wide array of permits must still be obtained, and lawsuits are expected.

The EIS concludes that a new bridge will have no major, lasting environmental effects, and includes a number of mitigation efforts to protect people and the environment during construction.
